HomeStretch
Kicks Off Give by Cell Campaign with 10th
Annual Run the River Road Race
- Even non-runners can
join 1,500 race participants in the $1,500
texting challenge
HomeStretch, a North
metro Atlanta-based nonprofit providing homeless
working families with short-term housing and
individualized support, will host on April 16
its 10th annual Choate Construction Run the
River Road Race — and also officially kick off
its 2011 Give by Cell campaign. Run the River
includes 5K and 10K races, as well as a Fun Run,
on a scenic course along the Chattahoochee River
in Roswell.
With 1,500 participants expected, HomeStretch is
hoping to raise $1,500 via text messaging on
race day. Anyone can participate by simply
texting the word ‘HOME’ to 20222 and a $10
donation will be added to the donor’s monthly
phone bill. This campaign is part of a larger
yearlong mobile giving effort that has a goal of
raising $15,000 for HomeStretch.
“We are hoping the race crowd gets as excited
as we are about this year’s Give by Cell
campaign,” said Rose Burton, executive
director of HomeStretch. “Give by Cell
provides a way for spectators to support the
cause. Even those of us who aren’t ‘in
shape’ enough to run a 5k or 10k can exercise
our fingers and help HomeStretch on April 16.”
A deejay from 97.1 The River will be on a
microphone, cheering on runners to cross the
finish line and encouraging spectators to give
via their cell phones. Every year local churches
compete to register the most participants for
the race. This year — as Give by Cell is
integrated into the race for the first time —
church groups also will be challenged to bring
in the most dollars for HomeStretch via mobile
giving.
Race day promises to be exciting. In addition to
the title sponsor, Choate Construction, the race
currently has 26 other sponsors ranging from
running stores to auto dealers. All registered
participants will have the opportunity to win an
iPad, courtesy of Compliance 360. Also new this
year, participants will be able to pre-register
and pick up race packets April 14 and April 15
from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 575 Riverside Rd. in
Roswell. For more information on the race, visit

Give by Cell is available on HomeStretch’s
